Uddenly she is famous and flawless a living muse that everyone at school worships This is a deliciously written thriller with bits of ghostly chill Recommend on a rainy day with a cup of hot tea trigger warningview spoiler mutilation disfigurement being possessed hide spoiler I received a copy of this book directly from the authorpublisher in exchange for an honest review This book was certainly a ride I will preface this review by saying that I read an ARC copy and because of that some of what bothered me about the book may be fixed before it s published so take those portions of my review especially the technical aspects with a grain of salt Let s start with the parts of the book I loved I found the plot both fascinating and familiar in a way I don t want to compare it to anything else so I ll leave it at that and eep the specifics TO MYSELF TAKE THAT AS YOU WILL BUT I myself Take that as you will but I enjoyed the paranormal plot and the way the fantasy esue aspects were intertwined with basic human vanity avarice hatred and sorrow I the way the fantasy esue aspects were intertwined with basic human vanity avarice hatred and sorrow I the characters although Isa Isabella is living a great life in Brooklyn with her best friend Eve and the lead in the school play coming up When her parents get a new job at a college in a small town her life is uprooted and she isn t happy The only perk is the mansion she gets to live in which belonged to the artist muse that she was named after Isabella Granger The mansion is filled with old paintings of Isabella locked off floors and little cell or Wi Fi service When Isa and a new friend discover Isabella s old clothes they start taking photos inspired by the paintings resulting in a viral Instagram account As their little project continues so do the dark things happening around them and to them This book is an engaging thriller that takes that a look at the dark side of beauty and vanity Filled with mysterious happenings and a girl that is suddenly not acting like herself at all the reader is No, No, Charlie Rascal kept on their feet While it is a thriller the books is a commentary on the real dangers of being obsessed with likes and followers on social media What is the cost of such obsession I wish there had been a little bit of the real Isa earlier on so that the transformation into Isabella was a little less subtle but I do believe the author did a good job of making it clear when it was Isabella coming out in Isa s words and actions I enjoyed this book and it feels like a very timely ghost story Thanks to the publisher for providing an eARC of The Last Beautiful Girl in exchange for an honest reviewWhile I think The Last Beautiful Girl was an interesting idea I think it was missing a not of nuance that was really really needed to execute this properly The book s description starts with a comparison to Black Mirror which is inevitably going to let down readers because Black Mirror isnown for how good it is at subtlety revealing plot clues until it all comes together for a shocking reveal There s also not really a mystery or reveal here at all It s made very clear from the get go what s going on including a lot of heavy handed scenes where Isa literally points out to the reader that a thought she just had seemed to come from someone else which makes what could have been a really interesting decent into apparent madness and obsession a lot less interesting to read. Y go viral Soon she's got a new best friend a potential boyfriend and is surrounded by a group of girls who want the photoshoots and fame for themselves But there's a darkness in the house and a darkness growing in Izzy too When girls start dying it's clear that something or someone in the house is growing in power with deadly intentions. This book was received as an ARC from Sourcebooks Fire in exchange for an honest review Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my ownI really needed a Y Fiction book such as this The context and plot are so brilliantly constructed that before I new it I was fully engaged and there was no going back The power of social media can be too powerful for a lot of people and for Izzy s sake it could lead to death Modeling old gowns she found in her home that once belonged to a previous tenant which struck a presence that was
"NOT PLEASANT THEN IZZY GOT SO CONSUMED IN THE "pleasant Then Izzy got so consumed in the that she herself turned dark and that is when chaos struck There were many moments where my jaw was wide open and my heart was racing There were even moments of shock and disbelief I now our teen book club will be definitely curious for this book and I can t wait to hear their thoughtsWe will consider adding this title to our YA collection at our library That is why we give this book 5 stars I received an advance e copy in exchange for an honest reviewThis book was muddled and underwhelming I will say that the last 20% was fast paced and flew by but overall it was just lackluster The writing style has no ominous twist to make any of its horror elements really land the plot is vague the ending goes out of its way to be gorey yet somehow still feels too easyIt s not a horrible book I just don t care for it Thank you to Sourcebooks Fire and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest reviewThe Last Beautiful Girl by Nina Laurin is a spooky YA thriller set in a social media age When I
Saw That The Description that the description this book to a cross between Black Mirror and Darcy Coates I new that I had to add it to my TBR list right away Black Mirror is one of my favorite shows and I also love thrillers about haunted locations The plot revolves around Izzy who moves into a Gothic mansion and starts an Instagram account using the vintage clothes that she finds around the place She soon gains influencer status and a ton of followers But is all of this fame too good to be true Is there something darker hiding in the mansionHere is a spine tingling excerpt from the prologueWith a sigh of relief Desiree turns back to her reflectionOnly it s not there Nothing s thereAnd then just as uickly there is something It takes Desiree a beat to figure out what or whom she s looking at Auburn hair still snakes around a face in wild curlsBut the face is gone In its place a smeared wax mask with black holes where its nose should be Exposed teeth jut out of grey gums Only the eyes are alive Locking onto her ownChoking on a shriek Desiree stumbles back away and away until she trips over the hem of her pilfered velvet gown and topples to the floor She doesn t hear the house creak and groan like a waking beast She can only look and look and look her gaze forever fixated on the mirrorLike the ones before her and the ones after Desiree never sees it comingOverall The Last Beautiful Girl is the ones before her and the ones after Desiree never sees it comingOverall The Last Beautiful Girl is stunning YA thriller that will appeal to fans of social media thrillers like Influence by Sara Shepard or slightly fantastical contemporary YA books like the upcoming Mercury Boys I loved the idea of starting a viral Instagram account and I m sure many readers will relate to that aspect as well What sets this book apart.
